Meet Declan, After Sales Support
Declan’s journey with Hiab began during his engineering studies at Dundalk Institute of Technology. Familiar with truck-mounted forklifts from his farming background, a factory visit sparked a lasting interest in the industry. In February 2016, that interest turned into a career.
Declan started as a shop floor operator, but his technical aptitude quickly led to a role as a Technical Writer just four months later. Within eighteen months, he transitioned
into his current position in After Sales Support.
“Starting on the shop floor was the perfect first step; it allowed me to see exactly how the machines are built. Moving into technical writing then showed me how the systems operate. I did not have to learn everything at once—I built a foundation of hands-on and technical experience that has been incredibly beneficial for my current role.”
Today, Declan is a key point of contact for customers post-delivery. He handles everything from missing parts and documentation to troubleshooting complex hydraulic and electrical faults. He also develops training materials for global markets and collaborates closely with R&D to resolve frontline issues.
“What I like about Hiab is that every day is different. You never know what challenge is coming next, which keeps the work engaging and never repetitive.”
Looking ahead, Declan is passionate about sustainable design and the shift toward e-machines, which he believes is the future of the industry. Driven by a growth mindset, Declan is eager to take on new challenges and see where his path at Hiab leads.
