Engine Control optimises loader crane performance and makes decarbonisation practical

Hiab’s Engine Control is a "plug-and-play" solution requiring only a single cable to connect the crane to the truck via the CAN interface. Remotely operated HIAB and EFFER loader cranes that have the SPACEevo control system installed can benefit from this intelligent efficiency feature.

The simplicity of the system allows partners and bodybuilders to deploy the technology rapidly, ensuring that the benefits of reduced fuel costs and lower noise levels reach the end-user faster.

This industry-first integrated solution is designed to act as a seamless extension of the crane’s intelligence, optimising the truck's engine behavior in real-time based on the crane's activity. While individual efficiency features have existed previously, Hiab Engine Control is the first solution on the market to offer a specific integrated configuration as a standardised offering.

Engine in use only when needed

The feature is based on Automatic Start/Stop and Dynamic RPM. Thanks to the Automatic Start/Stop, the engine shuts down automatically when the crane is inactive, restarting again when the operator moves a control. The Dynamic RPM control helps adapt the engine speed automatically to each maneuver's hydraulic demand, reducing rev spikes, fuel consumption and noise. Reduced fuel consumption also leads to decreased carbon dioxide emissions.

“Hiab has a long history of driving industry standards through innovation. With Engine Control, we are delivering a first-of-its-kind truck and crane integrated solution that makes decarbonisation practical for everyday operations. By combining Automatic Start/Stop and Dynamic RPM into one standardised plug-and-play package, less fuel is consumed and our customers can reduce emissions and noise without compromising on the performance,” says Mattias Berglund, Director Global Product Management, Controls and Electrification, Hiab.

By automating engine management, Hiab Engine Control delivers immediate environmental and operational benefits such as significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, lower operational costs through intelligent RPM management, and operator comfort with the reduction of noise levels at the job site. These can  improve operators’ working environment as well as surrounding communities.
